ABOUT SONGKHLA
Your host to Thai lifestyle in Songkhla.
Rin, is a native of southern Thailand, a recently retired RN is ready to hit the water and waves everyday. She loves to share her southern Thai culture, and the delicious foods of the south. Her part time job teaching cpr gives her time for her gardens, caring for the foods we eat; and as an avid kiter, you'll find her most days on her 7 Neo, in the waves, or charging around the local bay. Fresh back from a summer in Canada where her 4.5m was the norm, she's for a season of fun in our warm waters.
Songkhla is a small, city on the east coast of southern Thailand
Songkhla is an education centre, with three universities, five technical colleges and many private schools as well as government schools. It has the provincial and southern government offices, the major southeast coast fishing industry, and is the only container port on east coast south of Bangkok. As well, an army and navy base, a border patrol base and city and provincial police bases.
Getting here: The easiest way is to fly, or train into Hat Yai, about 40 minutes from us. We will pick up at either one. There are several daily flights from Bangkok and a coupledays a week from Phuket and Chiang Mai. There are also buses from most places into either Hat Yai or some to Songkhla. Air or train, with pick up is easiest for all, I believe.
☆☆☆☆
Food, is part of Thai social life. We frequent the little shops that have been running for a generations. The best foods are the little places that only locals know. There is a street food market every night of the week in a couple locations, a night market with live bands several nights a week and hundreds of restaurants, several with light live music. Let us introduce you to southern food, your old favorites and some new experiences. Variety is the spice of life! Note; We will help with ordering and translation as needed There are a couple live bars on the beach road and many chill restaurants with live entertainment hidden about the city.

A brand new sports and leisure area, Lots of outdoor gym, the stadium every evening is full of people running, aerobics, football, takor, basketball, patonque; there are tennis courts, several small field indoor football fields, volleyball courts on the beach, cycling is popular and we play badminton at three different clubs. Songkhla hosts many natuonal and internatiinal events; running, cycling, triathelon, volleyball, var races, and football.
The old town is undergoing a restoration that has beautiful old architecture, street art and cultural displays, a photographers paradise. Many new boutique hotels and restaurants. A cool place to check out for sure. There are many historical sites, view points, and cultural events, and interesting things to check out. Weekend clothing and everything markets, OTOP agriculture showcase and markets, etc.
A few things Songkhla doesn’t have;
- There are no big shopping malls, or highrise buildings.
- There is not a big nightlife scene, no strips of bars and no western influence of tourism.
- There is no taxi service here. There are songteaw and tuk tuk and motorcycle taxi that have their routes and are off the streets by 8pm. They do not speak English. If want a cultural experience, this is real. If you need western foods and companionship, this may not be not the place.
So, if this sounds like something you would like, let us help you enjoy what Songkhla has to offer along with some great kiteboarding.
- The people are genuinely friendly, a smile and a few words in Thai always makes a for a good encounter, as well as helping you get food.

Our favorite noodle restaurants, places that are famous here, and may have been in family for generations. The busy, therefore, good, rice restaurants that have for 'ever', served the best of basic rice and meat or fish dishes.
- night markets, small specialty shops, or sunset dinner at nice restaurant. Experience Southern Thai cuisine and introduce you to some new foods; you see, but not sure about. Let me help. Try something different and delicious. Thai food is not always hot spicy, with something for everyone.
RIN'S THAI COOKING LESSON.
Food is the essence of life. Variety is the spice of life.
I love to share Thai food with others. Show you the local style of eating the best of the area. Food doesn't have to be fancy to be delicious.
I grew up in a small village. My parents worked hard to put me through school. I often prepared the meals for the family and learned everything from my parents, especially Dad. Using natural things growing in the garden and wild, One of my favorite things; walking into my garden picking what I need for cooking. Natural, organic, fresh and the best taste.! I am passionate about this!
I can give you an easy lesson about Thai food and tell how it can be adapted to products in your home countries. We will start at the morning markets where we can talk about products and select the ingredients for our dinner tonight. Make your own fresh curry paste is easy and so much better than store bought.
